LED Reading Light – Rechargeable Book Reading Light

The compromise that has to be made is always reading at night in the same room as others, because you have to light the main room or else you will have to work in near darkness, which isn’t easy on the eyes. The one that helps a little is a standard book light, but most lights give out the beam of light to the room and/or give a small and sharp light beam which is still noticeable even after a long time of reading.

With a totally different approach, this LED flat panel reading light addresses both issues. Rather than pointing a beam on the page, it places a clear acrylic screen over the text, where the LED light is transmitted through the edges of the frame, and reflected exactly onto the words, and nothing else in the room.

The details regarding the Flat Panel Design can be found here. The transparent acrylic board has LEDs integrated along the edge of the frame that project light into the board. The light on the panel projects down onto the page below as it reflects in the material.

The fact that this side-lighting approach requires the light source itself to never face outwards towards the room, means that it can be contained within the panel and reflected only onto the surface immediately below it. The outcome is a very precisely lit page with almost no “spill” effect on the surrounding room.
